What are the classifications of nonwoven fabrics?

    2025-11-28
Nonwoven fabric, also known as non-woven material, possesses a unique charm. It not only has many aliases, such as nonwoven cloth, non-woven fabric, nonwoven textile, and non-woven textile, but also represents a material processing technology that originates from textiles yet transcends them. For such a widely used material, its classification is naturally rich and diverse.

    Classification of Nonwoven Fabrics

    Classification by Production Process:

    1. Spunlace Nonwoven Fabric:

High-pressure micro-jet water is sprayed onto one or more layers of fiber web, causing the fibers to entangle together, thus strengthening the web and giving it a certain strength.

    2. Thermally Bonded Nonwoven Fabric:

Refers to the addition of fibrous or powdered hot-melt adhesive reinforcing materials to the fiber web, which is then heated, melted, and cooled to solidify into a fabric.

    3. Airflow Formed Pulp Nonwoven Fabric:

Also known as dust-free paper or dry-laid paper nonwoven fabric. It employs airflow web-forming technology to loosen wood pulp fiberboard into single fibers, then uses airflow to condense the fibers onto a web-forming curtain, and finally reinforces the web into fabric.

    4. Wet-laid nonwoven fabric:

Fiber raw materials placed in an aqueous medium are loosened into single fibers. Simultaneously, different fiber raw materials are mixed to create a fiber suspension. The suspension is transported to a web-forming mechanism, where the fibers are web-formed in a wet state and then reinforced into fabric.

    5. Spunbond nonwoven fabric:

After the polymer has been extruded and stretched to form continuous filaments, the filaments are laid into a web. The web is then bonded through self-bonding, thermal bonding, chemical bonding, or mechanical reinforcement methods to become a nonwoven fabric.

    6. Meltblown nonwoven fabric:

After the polymer is melted and extruded to form fibers, the fibers undergo cooling, web-forming, and reinforcement processes to finally produce a nonwoven fabric.

    7. Needle-punched nonwoven fabric:

A type of dry-laid nonwoven fabric, needle-punched nonwoven fabric utilizes the piercing action of needles to reinforce the loose fiber web into fabric.

    8. Stitch-knitted nonwoven fabric:
A type of dry-lay nonwoven fabric. Stitch-knitting utilizes warp-knitted loop structures to reinforce fiber webs, yarn layers, nonwoven materials (such as plastic sheets, plastic foil, etc.), or combinations thereof to create nonwoven fabric.

In summary, there are many types of nonwoven fabrics, each with its own characteristics and applications. By understanding the properties and uses of various nonwoven fabrics, we can better leverage their role in various fields, bringing more convenience and benefits to people's lives and industrial production. Furthermore, with technological advancements and industrial development, the application areas of nonwoven fabrics will further expand, bringing more surprises and possibilities to people's lives.
